Creative Cakes!

Picture
Picture
I know many of you are celebrating your birthdays while you are learning from home, so this project is especially for you!  We are creating cakes this week!  Your cake can be a birthday cake or you can celebrate anything.  I can't wait to see all of your beautiful cakes!

Assignment:  Create a cake
Medium:  Artist's choice!

We will go step by step with pictures so that you can create your own cake!  Scroll through all of the pictures before you start so that you know what to expect.

Remember, draw your cake nice and BIG!  It should fill your whole paper!

You may want to draw with marker, like I did, or use pencil first and trace with marker.   It's always okay to practice on scrap paper first, but don't be afraid of making mistakes!  Mistakes may turn into something even better that what you had imagined.

Project inspired by Deep Space Sparkle.
Picture
Draw a long, flat oval. Try to make it almost touch the edges of your paper.
Picture
Add a rectangle underneath in the middle.
Picture
Draw a smaller flat oval. This is your cake stand!
Picture
Make two parallel lines near the edge of your cake stand.
Picture
Put a wavy line on top. Younger grades may want to put a straight line on top.
Picture
Make two parallel lines near the edge of the first layer of cake.
Picture
Add the top with the wavy line and flat line.
Picture
Add the table, which looks like a horizon line.
Picture
Curve the edges of your wavy line up and then put a flat line on top.
Picture
Do the same steps to make the icing on top. Remember the wavy line and then the flat line on top. Begin the next layer with two more parallel lines.
Picture
Decorate your cake! Can you make each layer different and special? Don't forget to decorate your cake stand. Be creative!
Picture
Decorate the table and the wall. I added wallpaper and a pattered table cloth. You can create patterns or be even more creative!
Picture
Pick your art supplies for coloring! Be careful if you use paint! Remember that wet paint next to wet paint will run together and mix.
Picture
I chose colored pencils and markers. Trace your lines with black marker to make the picture show up better. Erase any extra lines.

A few things to think about: Who is the cake for? What colors and shapes make sense together? What will the background look like? What details can you add to make your cake special?
